Kathrina Rupit creates large-scale artworks for public spaces, cultural institutions and communities internationally.

Responding to the history, ecology and social character of each location, her projects transform walls and shared environments into places of encounter, storytelling and collective identity.

From monumental murals to collaborative interventions, each work is developed in dialogue with its context — creating something that belongs not only to the site, but to the people who experience it.

Meilikki
Created for the tenth anniversary of Mimmit Peinttaa, Mielikki draws from Finnish mythology and the figure of the forest goddess.The mural explores the relationship between feminine archetypes, cultural memory and the living landscape continuing an ongoing body of work in which mythology becomes a way of reconnecting contemporary public space with older relationships to nature.

The theme, a mix of poetry and art history

We played a “broken phone/whispers game” connecting a historical iconic artwork with a wordsmith - and then back to a visual representation, each artwork different, poets with unique styles.

I received a beautifully crafted text,

The text begins with “You will look at us and think, ‘Oh, they look alike,’” and delves into generations and the reminder that “plenty happens outside the frame.”

I chose to symbolize generations with the traditional floral motifs originating from the center, echoing the real flowers that these women wear in their hair, which is full of stars.

I’m celebrating traditions intertwined with nature, a peaceful knowledge that nature whispers generation after generation.

Painted using Graphenstone mineral-based paints, the project became an important turning point in Kathrina Rupit’s practice. Working with a more environmentally conscious material prompted a deeper investigation into natural pigments, regenerative materials and the ecological possibilities of public art , research that continues to inform her work today.

Sir John Rogerson’s Quay, Dublin · Marlet Group

Created for Marlet Group at Sir John Rogerson’s Quay, Metamorphosis responds to an area defined by continual transformation. Once shaped by Dublin’s port and maritime activity, the Docklands have evolved into one of the city’s most rapidly developed districts, now home to major technology and international companies.

The mural reflects this transition through ideas of change, adaptation and renewal, while also questioning how contemporary development can remain connected to place and environment.

THREE GENERATIONS, ONE MURAL

Dakar, Senegal · Embassy of Ireland in Senegal - 2026

Created in collaboration with Senegalese artist Zeinixx, this mural at Colobane TER station celebrates three generations of women in Senegalese sport: Tening Faye, Combé Seck and Julie Marie Gomis.

Commissioned as part of the Embassy of Ireland’s St Brigid’s Day celebrations and developed in connection with Dakar 2026, the Youth Olympic Games, the project brought together artists from Senegal and Ireland through a shared celebration of women, creativity and sporting achievement. Ireland’s work in Senegal presents the mural as part of its cultural engagement ahead of Dakar 2026.

Through the representation of three athletes whose stories span different generations, the mural reflects on legacy, visibility and aspiration, using public art as a space for cultural exchange and for creating visible role models within the everyday landscape of Dakar.

'Urban Animation' is a collaborative project between Killkeny City Council, Cartoon Saloon & Kinmx.

Bringing all the elements of visual art together to form a augmented project using street art as the bridge to unvail another reality, another story and at the same time give permanence to the creative process now available for everyone to see.
