Kathrina Rupit is a Mexican-Irish contemporary artist whose practice explores the relationships between people, place and the more-than-human world through public art, material research and collaborative making. Working across large-scale murals, site-specific installations, natural pigments and ecological experimentation, she investigates how artistic practice can foster more regenerative relationships with landscapes, communities and cultural memory. Born and raised in Nuevo León, Mexico, Kathrina studied Visual Arts before holding her first solo exhibition in 2009. Since relocating to Ireland in 2010, she has developed an international practice spanning Europe, North and South America, Asia and the Middle East. Her work has been exhibited in the USA, Turkey, the UK, Spain, India, Sweden, Brazil, Italy, France and Ireland, while collaborating with cultural institutions, embassies, environmental organisations and international brands including Bacardi, Guinness, Smirnoff, TikTok and Marlet Group. She has also worked alongside organisations such as Greenpeace, Amnesty International and the United Nations. In 2012, Kathrina co-founded MINAW Collective, Ireland's first all-female and non-binary street art collective, creating opportunities for greater visibility and representation within public art. In recognition of her cultural contribution abroad, she was awarded the Ohtli Award in 2022, the highest honour bestowed by the Government of Mexico upon Mexican citizens living overseas. Alongside her public art practice, Kathrina is developing **IK MULUK**, an off-grid Art & Research Centre in the forest of Tulum, Mexico. Conceived as a long-term laboratory for artistic and ecological inquiry, the project brings together artists, architects, scientists and local communities to explore regenerative materials, natural pigments, bio-based construction, and new models of cultural exchange rooted in reciprocity and care. Her practice draws inspiration from ecology, mythology, posthumanist thought, new materialism and ancestral knowledge systems, approaching materials not simply as mediums but as collaborators carrying ecological and cultural histories. Whether creating monumental public artworks or researching pigments gathered from the landscape, her work asks how art can move beyond representation to actively participate in the regeneration of relationships between people, place and the living world. Kathrina divides her time between Ireland and Mexico, developing public artworks, research projects and international collaborations that bridge art, ecology and community across cultures and landscapes.
